Physical Education

Department Aims

To raise attainment through a balanced and diverse curriculum.

Sports Facilities

Montsaye Academy boasts some excellent sports facilities with which to deliver the PE curriculum and extra curricular sport.

A modern Sports Hall, Swimming Pool, 3G rubber crumb astroturf, purpose built Dance Studio and Fitness Suite, traditional gymnasium and extensive field space comprising 3 football pitches, Athletics track, long jump/triple jump pit make up the provision for Physical Education.


Physical Education.

‚ÄčDuring Key stage 3, students will follow a broad and balanced PE curriculum. Each week students will have two one hour lessons of PE. During the year students will take part in a range of activities including football, rugby, netball, hockey, dance, fitness, basketball, badminton, athletics, softball, cricket, rounders and orienteering. 

During Key stage 4, students still have two one hour lessons of PE a week. In addition to the activities outlined above students will have the opportunity to experience  a wider range of activities including yoga, pilates, boxercise, handball and ultimate frisbee.


Extra Curricular

In addition to PE lessons the department offers a wide range of extra curricular clubs/practices. For the most up to date extra curricular timetable, please see the extra curricular activities section on the website.

Currently Montsaye take part in competitive sports fixtures across all age groups in the following sports:

football (boys and girls), rugby union, netball, basketball (boys and girls), athletics/cross country, rounders, cricket and volleyball.


Examination PE and Dance

In Keystage 4, students have the opportunity to study examination PE/Sport/Dance. At the beginining of Year 9 students can study one of the following options:-

GCSE PE, GCSE Dance and BTEC Sport

In the Sixth Form students are able to continue studying examination PE/Sport. Currently the department offer the following courses:

AS/A2 Level PE

BTEC Sport

** The Department hope to offer A Level Dance in the near future.
